Honey Look At My Honus Wagner Baseball Card , I Got a Deal !

Honus Wagner never much cared for his baseball card to be included in cigarette packs and had them pulled. Although we don’t know historians theorize among other things he didn’t receive enough compensation. Even in those days ball players wanted to be paid . Supposedly less than 100 of these cards are known to exist , fewer than 10 in excellent conditon That motivated an Arkansas man to pay 1.62 million dollars for the 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card.

What enters a persons mind when the decision is made to pay 1.62 million for a piece of cardboard. Can you imagine explaining that to you significant other? Can you imagine the buyers remorse one might experience the morning after? I am going to assume that the Arkansas man has plans to monetize and market the Honus Wagner baseball card , but recovering 1.62 million is a long way from break even. Baseball card collectors have long been known for their obsession with cardboard. I myself once paid 700.00 for a Nolan Ryan rookie card, but I had a plan. I sold it the next day for 1200.00 . I wonder what pan from Arkansas can have for his Honus Wagner baseball card

Acrylamide In My Doritos? Say It is Not True , Please

Potato Chips contain something called acrylamide in them and it may cause cancer in humans. So not only do potato chips make you a fat ass, they can potentially kill you. And here I was worried about my arteries being clogged . California filed suit in 2005 to force chip makers to clean up their chips. One settled lawsuit and 3 million dollars later  Four food manufacturers agreed to reduce levels of a cancer-causing chemical in their potato chips and french fries. . Acrylamide forms when starchy foods are baked or fried. Studies have shown the chemical, which also has industrial uses, causes cancer in lab animals and nerve damage to workers who are exposed to high levels. The companies avoided trial by agreeing to pay a combined $3 million in fines and reduce the levels of acrylamide in their products over three years. 3 years huh? The Food and Drug Administration is researching whether acrylamide in food poses a health risk. Well if it makes rats sick, it must be bad. So what are we to do? Stop eating potato chips? Perhaps stop frying and baking starches. I have another question. What the heck isn’t bad for you these days Potato Chips are going to get healthier, but seriously I doubt anyone cares. Disclaimer , this post was written while pounding down a family sized bag of nacho cheese Doritos , chasing them with the soft drink of all soft drinks Diet Coke. I guess Im doomed, Damed Acrylamide !

Bennigans Stores Closing Nationwide , Glory Days Gone

Bennigans was founded in 1976. The restaurant has locations in 32 states. There was day when Bennigans was the place to go , the place to be. In fact there was d ay when Bennigans was one of my own best customers in my family owned hospitality equipment service agency. The truth is I probably wouldn’t have given this news a second thought if it wasn’t for that fact.
Living in the sunshine state of Florida I recently visited a Bennigans for dinner and my how the times have changed. The food, the service and the ambiance were horrible. Large restaurant chains are very trendy and change with the culture, that is the ones that want to be successful. Bennigans fell off the map years ago and never really jumped back on, So long Bennigans. Company stores will close today.

Manly Man Candles , This Could Work

Manly Man Candles is the news today. Their target audience for sweet smelling candles is men. That is not your typical market for scented  candles. However the company has some unique scents for their candles and wow , this could work . Manly Man Candles include Manly Man scents Forget the “yard work” and the “clean laundry” and instead go straight for the “duct tape,” “burrito fart,” and “urinal deodorizer” Can you believe that?

Now testosterone comes in a waxed candle aroma with scents sure to please that manly man with the feminine side who is afraid of what people think. This is pure marketing genius . Just think of the possibilities. Char grilled Filet Mignon, Baseball gloves, it is limitless for what Manly Man candles can produce. Confession time,  I buy candles  and you can be sure I wll check out some manly man candles, for my scented candles

50 Cent Lawsuit of Taco Bell , Curtis Jackson Wants to Be Paid

50 Cent apparently is outraged at the recent Taco Bell advertisements. 50 Cent is so upset he filed a 4 million dollar law suit against the fast food chain.. A copy of the complaint can be seen here.  Apparently Taco Bell Had contacted 50 Cent to include him in the campaign. How ridiculous is this lawsuit. Curtis Jackson , his real name filed the law suit. This is America where lawsuits are a daily occurrence. Now for the sad part , rather than spend in excess of the 4 million dollar claim Taco bell will get in touch with the 50 Cent people , have lunch over  a Chalupa and settle this thing before it ever gets to court. Only In America folks.

Starbucks Closing List Names 600 Stores Scheduled for Closure

Four Bucks, alias Starbucks named the 600 store closures and while it may seem like news today, the fact is, you will read about more of the store closures from other companies. Starbucks Store Closures gets the ink because well, it a big company and no one expects Starbucks store closures. I ask you though in all seriousness, would you feel more inclined to pay 4 bucks for Starbucks or four bucks for a gallon of Mobil Gasoline. I’m thinking it’s the gas . Starbucks closures wont force them into liquidation or anything; it’s just a sigh of the times . The Starbucks closing list totaled 600 stores, for now, but I still love Starbucks coffee

National Liquidators Capitilizes On Bad Ecomony , Business Is Good

The economy isn’t getting nay better and it appears it wont for a while. However people still have needs. That being said, you will see internet companies as well as traditional brick and mortar businesses adjust their marketing strategy. National Liquidators is one of those companies designed to capitalize on the bad economy. The Ft Lauderdale based company has tripled their business in recent times; repossessing boats They are taking back lots of boats and selling them with auctions. And people are lined up to buy them. The same is happening with home foreclosure, auto repossessions and just about any industry you can think of. The economy is in an adjustment cycle and there is no stopping it now. National Liquidators, High Tech Liquidators, Auto Liquidators, you name it there are bargains to be had. Now if we just find a way for National Liquidators to do something with gas prices, then we would be on to something

Coach Bags or Coach Handbags are very popular. The problem is how many Coach bags and handbags that are out there that are replicas or in other words fake? These days with almost any high end product on the market there are 10 times that many manufacturers of knock offs and replicas, from Sunglasses to Coach Handbags to anything under the sun.

Watches are a particular favorite of theses black marketers. Visit any major city in the United States and you can have your choice of fine imitation Rolex or Tag wrist watches. This problem is not going to go away. Our economy is not going to get better soon. People want nice things but they cant afford it. It’s  the old supply and demand theory at its best. Find a need and fill it. Our lust for designer Coach Bags or Gucci Sunglasses will drive this market for the foreseeable future. Except for an occasional “is that real Coach ?“ comment most people don’t give it a second thought, real  Coach bags or not

Starbucks Stores Closing Four Bucks For Starbucks Too Much

Last week we read about Cold Stone Creamery Stores closings. It was discussed that people would rather pay for a gallon of gas then pay 4 bucks for a scoop of ice cream. Apprently Starbucks Coffee drinkers are feeling the same way. Starbucks Corp. said Tuesday it will close 600 company-operated stores in the next year, up dramatically from its previous plan for 100 closures, a sign the coffee shop operator is still feeling the pain from the faltering U.S. economy. Thats a bunch of Starbucks Stores clsoing. Starbucks Coffee is one of the best available but four bucks for Starbucks Coffee may be a bit too much for traffic to bear. Perhaps the company could come up with a new pricing structure to prevent Starbucks  closing stores. In the end they wont, as Im sure thy would like to continue the four bucks for Starbucks business model even if it means a few more Starbucks stores closing
