Bytes written on vs drive a Federal Screw Works Votrax
voice synthesizer. The upper two bits encode an inflection,
the other 6 specify a phoneme. The code is given in section
vs (VII).

Touch-Tone signals sent by a caller will be picked up
during a read as the ASCII characters {0123456789#*}.
